Go have a look at Memeorandum. The wingers are up in arms because Obama said his uncle liberated Ausschwitz which, admittedly, can’t be true because Ausschwitz was liberated by the Red Army. But, assuming Obama isn’t just inventing this stuff about his uncle having served in Patton’s army, then this relative did in fact take part in the liberation of concentration camps. Obama just got the names mixed up.
Not everyone is a WWII history buff. Not everyone needs to be a WWII history buff. Yes, it would be nice if we could all just get our names and places correct 100% of the time, but this is the sort of nitpicking that signals desperation and a small-minded attention to detail. Buchenwald (a camp that Patton’s army did liberate) was perhaps slightly less horrific than Ausschwitz. I don’t know. But that detail is hardly the central point here. Get a life, wingers.
